Coco on Lace, Audrey in Lace

“Unlike many other precious objects which, owing to industrial progress, have lost much of their luxurious quality, lace, adapting itself to the economic and industrial requirements of our age, has kept its main characteristics: precious elegance, lightness and luxury.”

Coco Chanel

The lace dress that Audrey Hepburn wore to the 1954 Academy Awards has been sold for $131,000 to a private collector at an auction last year. The delicate dress was designed by the legendary Edith Head and was an adaptation of the dress Hepburn wore in the final scene of Roman Holiday, the performance for which she won that year’s Best Actress Oscar.  Head also won an Oscar for costume design for the film.
