With the renovation of the Waco Regional Airport, there have been a few open calls for public art. One of these calls was for an artwork located in the passengers’ departing lounge, aiming to depict a mammoth in shallow relief due to the proximity of the largest known Columbian mammoth site.
The adult mammoth and the calf are crafted in their actual size using a bobbin lace technique, meticulously woven by hand. Positioning the ropes slightly off the face of the wall creates an additional 3D effect with the shadows.
